Santiago, Daniel and the entire team were excellent, they delivered on what was agreed, had great availability, and reasonable prices. They renovated our basement, adding a bar and a wine cellar. The end result is stunning. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Santiago and his team.

Santiago and his team did an incredible job transforming the space under our basement stairs into a custom built-in! It required both custom cabinetry and opening the wall safely. The result was exactly what we had in mind and the attention to detail was excellent. Communication was incredibly thorough from the first proposal through completion. Highly recommend.

The #1 reason basement remodels fail in year three.

Most contractors skip the protection layers because homeowners never see them. We don't. Here's the whole stack we install, and document with photos, before drywall ever goes up.

Talk to our Bethesda team about your basement

Our standard moisture stack

Five layers, in this order, every time:

1Drainage inspection & gutter check around the house
2Crack repair + hydraulic cement on existing walls
3Vapor barrier (6-mil poly, fully sealed)
4Sump pump test (or new install, with battery backup)
5Dehumidifier sized to the square footage you're finishing

Everything in a complete basement finishing project.

  • Design & permit drawings

Your layout, drawn up and submitted for approval. Required for basement finishing in Bethesda and everywhere else we work.

  • Moisture protection stack

The 5-layer system above. Documented with photos.

  • Framing & insulation

Steel or wood studs. Code-compliant insulation on walls and rim joists.

  • Electrical & lighting

Permitted, inspected. Recessed lighting, accent runs, dedicated circuits as needed.

  • HVAC tie-in

Trunk-line extensions off the house's existing system, plus returns and supply registers sized for the new space.

  • Egress windows

Where bedrooms are planned, code-compliant egress with wells.

  • Flooring, paint, trim

LVP, carpet, or polished concrete. Doors, baseboards, casing.

  • 1-year labor warranty

Written. Our workmanship is covered for a full year, and cabinets carry a 2–10 year warranty.

Bethesda basement remodeling, answered.

If you're worried about moisture, you're already asking the right question.

What if my basement has moisture issues now?

We diagnose first, finish second. If there's an active leak or chronic dampness, we address the source (grading, gutters, sump pump, crack injection) before any framing goes up. We will not finish over a moisture problem and stake our warranty on it.

How does the basement design process work?

The project starts with a consultation in your basement. It takes about an hour, and we talk through moisture and what you want to make the space into. Our designer then works out whether it stays open or splits into separate rooms, and draws a functional layout around the mechanicals and any sump pump. Within 2 to 3 weeks of our visit to your house, you receive a fixed-price proposal that lists the materials and finishes you choose. If you'd like to see finishes in person beforehand, you can schedule a sit-down with a designer at our Bethesda showroom.

Do I need permits for basement finishing?

Yes, in Bethesda, throughout Montgomery County, and in DC. Electrical, plumbing and HVAC work, egress windows, and new bedrooms all require permits. Our team pulls them and handles the inspections.

Will finishing the basement increase my home's value?

Yes, but not always dollar-for-dollar. Industry-standard ROI is 70–75% of cost recovered at sale. The bigger win is usable space during the years you live there.

Should I finish my basement or build an addition?

If you have an unfinished basement with enough headroom, finishing it is usually the less expensive way to make more room, because you're working with space the house already has. Basement finishing starts at $35K with us and home additions at $75K. An addition makes more sense when the room needs to be above ground, such as a bigger kitchen or a primary suite. Those run far above the $75K floor: a kitchen extension or a primary suite starts at $175K. We do both.

Can I add a bedroom?

Yes. To make it a legal bedroom, code calls for proper egress (an exterior window or door that meets size requirements). Most houses need a window-well excavation; we include that in our scope when bedrooms are planned.

What about ceiling height?

Code requires 7' minimum finished ceiling. If your basement is tight, we can sometimes drop drywall flush with bottom of joists and run mechanicals tight, which buys 4–6 inches.
